MARIETTA, Ga. -- Several community groups protested Tuesday against a Cobb County bar that is selling T-shirts that appear to portray Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a monkey.

The shirts, which are sold by Mulligan’s Food And Spirits on Roswell Street in Marietta, show a monkey eating a banana. Underneath the image are the words “Obama In ’08.”

“As a private business, Mulligan's is free to conduct business as it chooses. However, as a community, we must unite against such intolerance,” said Jerry Gonzalez, executive director of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials.

Among the groups taking part were the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Nation Of Islam, and the Cobb Immigrant Alliance.
