ATLANTA -- An autopsy will be performed Monday to learn why a boxer died soon after finishing a fight.Walker Atrice fought at a Golden Gloves event at Tech High School in Atlanta on Saturday night.“Even though we talked about this training and giving up boxing, he said ‘One more time’,” said his father, Walker Atrice Sr.But one more time would prove to be Atrice’s last time.“He was tired, his opponent was coming after him…they finally stopped the fight, and he later collapsed in the hallway,” said Bobby Hornsby, who watched the fight.Atrice was rushed to Grady Hospital, where he died.“We have been really blessed to have him as a son. He brought a lot of joy to our life,” said his father.Atrice planned to open his own gymnasium, to teach teenagers boxing and life lessons.“He'd probably say, ‘It's all good, dad. I had a great life,’” said his father.
