'Runaway Bride' Musical Starts Next Week

UPDATED: 10:02 am EST March 7, 2008

A musical based on the case of the 'runaway bride' will begin performances next week, and tickets are on sale.

“The Runaway Bride” is The Red Clay Theater’s first entirely original production. The show opens Mar. 13 and will run through April 20.

The show is based on the bizarre case of Jennifer Wilbanks, who gained national notoriety when she got a case of cold feet just before her 2005 wedding to John Mason. Her disappearance set off a national manhunt, which ended in Albequerque, N.M., where Wilbanks turned up. Wilbanks originally claimed she had been abducted, but later recanted her story.

The musical, written by director Deborah Childs and Beverly Cantwell, will try to show what it was like to live in Duluth during Wilbanks’ disappearance.

Tickets to the production can be ordered by calling 770-622-1777.
