CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Murder suspect Gary Michael Hilton was questioned by a Cherokee County sheriff’s deputy three months ago, and the incident was caught on the deputy’s dashboard video camera."What'cha doing out here?" asked the deputy."You're the fourth person to come along and ask me that. I guess they called you didn't they?" asked Hilton."Yes they did," responded the deputy.Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison said the incident happened on Oct. 26, after hunters called to complain about a trespasser who was camping on a private hunting preserve.Hilton told deputy William Ballard he was confused because he was using some old maps to find Sweetwater Trail."I'm leaving. I'm getting out of here. God almighty," Hilton said.Deputy Ballard asked Hilton if he had any weapons. “Absolutely not,” replied Hilton. But then, out of camera range, Hilton showed the deputy his police-style baton."I do have an expandable baton right there. Don't get nervous,” Hilton said.Garrison said Wednesday that at the time, there was nothing suspicious about Hilton."He spoke very well, carried on a very conversation with the deputy and it was just non-eventful,” Garrison said.Deputy Ballard watched Hilton pack his belongings, and said goodbye."Hey, I love ya," Hilton said."Mr. Hilton, you take care. Be safe," answered the deputy.
