A judge denied bond Monday for the man accused in an attack on a celebrity trainer that left him in a coma.

Apollo Holmes, 22, faces an aggravated assault charge in connection with the attack.

Holmes surrendered to police early Monday morning.

"We're glad that God put it on the guy's conscience to turn himself in," said Stacey Andrews, a friend of victim Darius Miller.

Miller, 41, was severely beaten by what witnesses claimed was a group of men. He is listed in critical condition at Emory Crawford Long Hospital and is in a coma.

Miller was attacked after trying to stop a group of men videotaping women outside of the popular Atlanta nightclub Verve around 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a police report. Police said the men turned on Miller when he attempted to stop them.

Holmes' family said Monday he is innocent.

"He is being accused of these things without without given a chance. It's just wrong," said sister Christian Holmes.

Holmes is scheduled to have a bond hearing in two weeks.
