A cab driver was shot and killed early Friday morning in DeKalb County, police said.

Police said Dane Grobman, 54, became the fourth metro Atlanta cab driver attacked in the last three months when he was discovered shortly after 2 a.m.

Police answered a call about 2:30 a.m. Friday that came in as a car crash at Alden Village Apartments. Investigators said the cab, a white mini van, hit a tree. They are checking the cab's last fare to see whether that played a part in the driver's killing.

DeKalb County police officer Marcus Hodge said the Grobman had been shot before the cab crashed.

"The male subject was slumped over the wheel and he had an apparent gunshot wound," Hodge said.

Fellow taxi cab drivers rushed to the scene, most suspecting their co-worker was killed for his cash.

"I've been robbed twice," said cab driver David Hotwell. "I've been robbed at gunpoint, and the gun went off, but it missed my head."

The whole thing has a lot of cab drivers in the area thinking about switching careers.

Kevin Webb has only been a cab driver for three weeks.

"How scary is this, Kelvin? You're just getting started in the business," said Webb. "It's a shock."

Overnight, Webb learned one of his colleagues at Decatur's Best Taxi Service was killed on the job.

"It's kind of made me wonder, do I want to become a cab driver or become an officer of the law?" Webb said.
