Blank: Falcons Won't Cut Vick For Now

POSTED: 12:58 pm EDT August 27, 2007
UPDATED: 7:24 pm EDT August 27, 2007

Falcons owner Arthur Blank said Monday that they would not cut Vick immediately because of salary-cap issues. The team intends to pursue the $22 million in bonus money that he already received in a $130 million contract signed in 2004.

"We cannot tell you today that Michael is cut from the team," owner Arthur Blank said.

Blank spoke at a press conference two hours after Vick pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges in Richmond, Va.

Blank said contractual obligations prevented the team from cutting Vick now.

Falcons general manager Rich McKay said the team sent Vick and his attorneys a letter demanding the quarterback return $22 million in bonus money.

Despite Vick's developing scandal during the preseason months, team officials confirmed that the club continues to approach record ticket sales for the season.
