Tree Fell Across Road And Onto Truck In Buckhead

A tree fell on a car on in northwest Atlanta killing the driver.

Raymond Jones was driving down Nacoochee Drive when the tree fell across the road and onto the cab of his truck. The truck burst into flames, killing Jones at the scene.

A witness tried to help, but couldn't reach Jones.

Trees across metro Atlanta were knocked down by the wind and rain Monday morning.

Some MARTA lines were shut down because of the power outage.

A tree was also knocked down onto a DeKalb County nursing home. Police told CBS Atlanta that four people were evacuated from the nursing home on Briarcliff Road near North Ponce de Leon.

A tree fell on a DeKalb County nursing home, forcing the evacuation of several patients.

A tree fell on a bus stop at Emory. A tree was also reported down on a home on Cortez Way.

A tree was knocked down on power lines on Belvedere Avenue in southwest Atlanta.

Police in Cobb County reported that dozens of trees were toppled there, including one on Bells Ferry at Chastain roads.

Several Cobb County schools were closed to due to power outages.

In Gwinnett County, police reported trees down at these intersections: Williams Road/Amberly Drive, Rockbridge Road/Centerville Highway, Lake Drive/Woodland Drive and several other locations.

Traffic lights were down at the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Duluth Highway.

Meanwhile, Georgia Power officials said late Monday morning that at least 24,000 customers in metro Atlanta were without service as high winds sent limbs and tree crashing down on power lines.

Parts of Georgia got up to 3 1/2 inches of rain on Friday as severe storms trekked across the state. The storm system produced at least nine tornadoes and injured one person in Hancock County in central Georgia.
