ATLANTA -- If you drive through Midtown Atlanta, you may notice something missing from the skyline and it has some people talking."As an Atlantan, you do wonder and do kind of worry about what it means," said Midtown resident Nina Parker. So what's missing? The Trump Towers have never been built and Midtown's Mandarin Hotel hasn't been built either. Plus, Loews Hotel has yet to open to the public."You know it looks bad, and I just walked from there so to walk by this empty building where nothing is happening it looks bad, and it looks like there's no progress going on downtown," said Parker. So CBS Atlanta News dropped by the Trump Towers Gallery and the office was closed and their phone line had been disconnected. At Mandarin's corporate office, the man responsible for development was out of the country. So CBS Atlanta asked Midtown Alliance to explain."Are the projects on hold?" asked CBS Atlanta Reporter Adam Murphy. "As far as I know, they're on hold," said Shannon Powell with Midtown Alliance.Powell said the economy is most likely to blame. That said, Loews Hotel will open for business in April."I think there are a lot of people that are genuinely looking for work and opportunities so when those kind of things come to a screeching halt, it does not follow through and create those opportunities," said Parker.
