A high-ranking Atlanta police officer, who is also a member of police Chief Richard Pennington's staff, is under investigation.

The DeKalb County sheriff’s office is investigating Maj. Pearline Williams. Investigators accused Williams of bringing her son illegal contraband while he was in the DeKalb County jail, which would be a felony charge.

Williams is Pennington's chief of staff and a 24-year veteran with the Atlanta Police Department.

DeKalb investigators did not say Monday what the alleged contraband was. The sheriff won’t comment until the investigation is over.

Atlanta police officials said that there will be no disciplinary action against Williams at this time.
