ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The leader of a gang called the “G Squad” was in court Thursday on gun charges stemming from the burglary of a police officer’s home.

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents said they hope that this case will put other agencies on alert.

The pictures on Arrington Griffin’s cell phone tell the story. They show the 18-year-old, who also goes by the name “Saint,” holding a stolen machine gun. One picture shows him pointing the gun at the camera.

“Mr. Griffin is known to be the leader of a gang that calls itself the G Squad,” said ATF agent Marc Jackson.

The G Squad is known for targeting the homes of police officers and military to steal their weapons. Officials said they work out of a wooded area behind the Kroger grocery store on State Bridge Road in Alpharetta, Ga.

“If the allegations are true, certainly it is cause for great concern that gang members would resort to this type of activity to arm themselves,” Jackson said.

The June burglary of a Fulton County police officer’s home, in which a machine gun and a service pistol were stolen, led to Griffin’s arrest.

The following day, officers responded to a call of shots fired behind the Kroger. The suspects fled, but police found a machine gun stolen from the officer’s home.

The investigation led agents to Griffin, who they said had some of the evidence they needed on his cell phone.

Griffin’s attorney issued the following statement on his arrest:

"Mr. Griffin and I are looking forward to having the opportunity present to the court a complete and accurate picture of the facts of this case. As the case proceeds and the truth comes out, the facts will be very different from the one sided story told today by the ATF and the United States Attorney's Office."

ATF and Fulton County officials would not comment on the possibility that there are more gang members still on the streets with stolen law enforcement weapons.

Officials said they are trying to find out if the service pistol that has been missing since June has been used to commit any crimes.
