ACWORTH, Ga. -- If you have kids, they likely know more about the Internet than you do.That's why one group is launching a nationwide effort to teach parents about Internet dangers.A lot of police departments like the one in Acworth are very worried about your kids and what they're seeing and doing on the Internet.Optimist International is teaming up with police officers to keep your kids safe.It is simple, short and to the point. A 15 minute DVD that’s geared toward parents teaches them about the dangers of the Internet."A real weak link in the whole process of keeping kids safe was the lack of knowledge that parents have about Internet use,” said Mark Shriver.Shriver heads up Optimist International - a service agency with a concern for kids. It's about to unveil a DVD at churches, PTA's and other groups nationwide offering parents some simple tips."Kids shouldn't have computer in their rooms where they can close the doors," said Shriver. The basic message is to keep current on technology, keep communicating with your kids, and keep checking up on them. If you're not computer savvy ask your kids to teach you.A father of four, Acworth's police chief also teaches parents about child porn and other Internet dangers.Chief Mike Wilkie started a Facebook page of his own to learn more."If I had a message, that's the message in a nutshell. Get a clue and sit down and talk," said Wilkie.
