Police: Men Targeted Marietta Apartment Complex's Parking Lot

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Marietta police arrested three men who investigators said were trying to get around high gas prices by siphoning gas from vehicles at an apartment complex.According to a police report, Kevin Gitonga, Ted Mbaya and George Mwangi were arrested Tuesday after using a garden hose and gas can to steal gas from five vehicles.Police went to the scene around 4:30 a.m. after getting a call of someone trying to steal a vehicle. According to police, all three men ran when officers approached them. Mwangi and Gitonga were shot with stun guns before being subdued, officers said.All three men were charged with felony obstruction and misdemeanor theft by taking.Marietta police spokesman Mark Bishop said apartment complexes are popular places to siphon gas because there are usually a large number of vehicles in the complexes’ parking lots.
