A coach faces charges and awaits a court date after police said he led a group of students on a lewd Christmas prank in Marietta.

Police said John Hayes, 46, loaded several middle schoolers into the back of his pickup truck, and drove them around after dark as they damaged Christmas displays.

The group even made several homeowners’ displays X-rated, police said, including placing reindeer in sexual positions.

A homeowner who did not want to be identified said he followed Hayes’ pickup truck and confronted him.

“I said ‘Are you crazy?’ and he said, ‘It's just a bit of fun,’” the homeowner said.

Other adults in the neighborhood aren't laughing.

“We try as hard as we can to keep our kids on the straight and narrow, and then to find out it was a parent actually doing this, it makes you wonder,” said Jennifer Schuchmann, one of the residents allegedly victimized by Hayes’ group.

CBS 46 went to Hayes’ home Monday night, but he refused to come to the door. Police said Hayes refuses to give up the names of his young accomplices.

“He's not very cooperative, he will not give us information on those juveniles. We've tried to talk with him, but I believe he understands what he's done is wrong,” said Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Schuchmann said Hayes apologized and replaced their damaged display.

“To see an adult leading kids to do this kind of property damage isn't right but they did pay us back,” she said.

Hayes is charged with trespassing, contributing to the delinquency and reckless conduct.

Hayes was released from jail on a $2,500 bond. No court date has been scheduled.
