Georgia Southern Breaks Ties With Sewak

POSTED: 3:52 pm EST November 29, 2005

Mike Sewak will not be brought back as head football coach of Georgia Southern, athletic director Sam Baker announced on Tuesday.

The Eagles compiled a 35-14 mark during Sewak's four years at the helm, including three playoff appearances. The coach led Georgia Southern to the Division I-AA semifinals in his first season, but failed to make the playoffs in 2003 and suffered first-round defeats in 2004 and this year.

"I decided our football program needs to go in a different direction," Baker said. "Mike has directed the football program in a professional manner and been a positive ambassador for Georgia Southern. However, our expectations for the football program have not been met."

Georgia Southern finished 8-4 in 2005 and lost to Texas State 50-35 in the opening round of the playoffs last Saturday.

Baker also announced that the contract for the assistant football coaches will not be renewed either.
