After 40 years and 10 different versions, the Toyota Corolla is still going strong with an all-new car for the 2009 model year.
Already available at Toyota dealers, the 2009 Corolla is designed to improve on previous models by all measures.
Toyota started with the exterior design. The designers wanted a lower and wider car, so they moved the forward A-pillar even more forward and down a bit. And they moved the rear C-pillar back.
To enhance the shape even more, the S and XRS models get a special underbody spoiler, rocker moldings and upper and lower rear spoilers.
Inside, the 2009 model has the same headroom, legroom and shoulder room as the previous model, but it feels larger thanks to its refined design.
Passengers will notice a multitude of storage spaces, ranging from center console side pockets, to upper and lower glove boxes, to front and rear door pockets.
Powering the new Corolla is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine good for 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque. Or, buyers can choose an optional 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 158 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque.
